We’re music fans in the pebble office, and there’s a fair mix of tastes. Thanks to our Apple Airport Express, Spotify and Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba we can avoid squabbles and pass around control of the office sound system to share our choice of tunes. Here’s what we’ve been listening to this week:
Caravan Palace - Jolie Coquine
There’s a swing revival on the horizon, and this French Electro-Swing group have some great tracks to contribute. The band members came together after being hired to produce a soundtrack for silent movies of an erotic nature(!). Signed to Wagram records, they’ll be making festival appearances this summer, including at the Secret Garden Party.
Volcano Choir
Adjusting the tempo slightly, Volcanic Choir are the post-rock indie product of a collaboration between Justin Vernon, frontman of Bon Iver and Collection of Colonies of Bees. Their debut album, Unmap, was released in 2009. Definitely experimental, and definitely worth a listen.
I Blame Coco
Daughter of Sting and Trudie Styler, Coco Sumner began recording at age 15 and was signed to Island Records by age 17. She also played a supporting role in 2007 fantasy film Stardust, modelled for Burberry and provided vocals for the Sub Focus track ‘Splash’. Whilst it’s easy to proclaim she’s benefitted from Daddy’s contacts, her single ‘Ceasar’ is a great upbeat electro-pop single, and the B-Side ‘Ritalin’ shows she can perform just as well acoustically. Her album ‘The Constant’ is coming later this year.
Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip
The second album from this Essex duo, Logic Of Chance, is an eclectic mix of electronic beats, hip hop and beat poetry mixed with social commentary and narrative. Le Sac has solo success as a remix artist and Scroobius Pip is a regular on the spoken word gig circuit, and they performed together at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
